(2001) Book ~ Dav Pilkey chapters.indigo Review The second "epic novel" in the hilarious Captain Underpants series starts off with a brief comic-style foreword to bring new readers up to speed: briefly, two kids have hypnotized their principal into believing he is their own comic book hero, Captain Underpants. He behaves normally ... unless someone snaps her fingers. Then the hypnotic suggestion kicks in and only a bucketful of water over his head will bring him out of it. Got it? Silly, eh?) Fourth-grade pranksters George and Harold are thrilled to read the notice for this year's Invention Convention: they still have fond memories of last year's extravaganza when they created a super-fast-drying adhesive that had the staff and students glued to their seats. But perpetually nasty principal Mr. Krupp has added some fine print to keep George and Harold out of the contest! Too bad -- it doesn't stop them from sabotaging the other inventions, though, which lands them in trouble again. In detention, George and Harold come up with a new Captain Underpants comic book, in which mystery rays from space transform the school toilets into carnivorous commodes. Anxious to distribute their new masterwork, the boys head for the copy machine ... which has been modified by a grade-school inventor to change two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional creatures! Needless to say, there is potty pandemonium! Pilkey's frankly childish humour and self-aware cracks are drawn out with several Flip-O-Rama animation pages to illustrate the amazing "extremely graphic" fight scenes (with suitably wry "warnings" beforehand). It may not be literature, but it's hilarious. Ages 7-10. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 4 1. Captain Underpants Rules! Reviewer: Anne from Owen Sound Date: 2/16/2001 10:49:15 AM I am the mother of a seven year old boy who just loves the Captain Underpants books. I also have read the first three in the series, and love them. It's great to find a book that children love to read over and over again. Keep them coming Dav! 2. Hilarious Reviewer: prerna bharti from brampton, ontario Date: 12/31/2000 6:31:27 PM Dav Pilkey has done it again. He has created another hilarious book. "Captain Underpants and Attack of ths Talking Toilets" is a sequel to "The Adventures of Captain Underpants" They are both very funny and are full of humour. In this book, George and Harold use the PATSY 2000 to turn 2-dimensional things into real thing. George and Harold put their latest comic book into the PATSY 2000 and out came the talking toilets. Then it was up to them and Captain Underpants to save the day. I read this book and I reccomend it to everybody. 3. captin underpants Reviewer: daniel lavinskas from montreal, quebec Date: 2/9/2000 7:45:52 PM My reveiw on this book is just plain and simple this book is the best book i've ever read in my life and the pictures are just brilliant and also george and harold changing there names to fluffy and cheeseball it was just spectacular! 4. Captain Underpants Reviewer: Michelle from Ontario Date: 6/24/1999 11:09:25 AM There is no way to describe Pilkey's sense of humour unless you read one of his books. This is the sequel of The Adventures of Captain Underpants, and it's just as hilarious. George and Harold, the creators of Captain underpants, use the PATSY 2000, an invention that makes anything on paper real, to make the talking toilets come alive. Captain Underpants, George and Harold save the day by feeding them chipped beef, the next day's school cafeteria lunch food. Filled with jokes that sometimes go over kids' heads, this is a hilarious book for anyone who loves puns.
